The sound of rain in the gumtrees' leaves
A million droplets falling, silent, to ground
Building up slowly in downpipes and eaves
A soft, gently chorus of waterfall sounds

The beautiful raindrops are falling again
The night's all but silent, but the rain patters on
Through the bush and the scrubland, the forest, the fen
The outback is quiet, but the rain patters on

The rumble of thunder rolls 'cross the sky
And silvery lightning traces cracks in the air
As the chittering fruit-bats take wing and fly
Over moon-dusted canopies to their ages-old lair

The beautiful raindrops are falling again
The night's all but silent, but the rain patters on
Through the bush and the scrubland, the forest, the fen
The outback is quiet, but the rain patters on

From blistering drought to torrential downpour
No matter their strength or occasion
From towering peaks to the still forest floor
The rains are always welcome

The oilskin sky comes apart at the seams
The night's all but silent, but the rain patters on
And through forest and desert, mountain and stream
The outback is quiet, but the rain patters on

I love the sound of rain at night. Last night i couldn't sleep, so i got out my binder and a torch and jotted this down. It's sort of a tribute to the Australian poetry of the 19th and early 20th centuries.

hope y'all enjoy it.

i really like this. i love the sound of the rain and the scent of it, too.

good times indeed. you should have seen Alex and Luke after they got back from 'bundying' up by the girls' cabin. i believe the term 'drenched' was inventd solely for that situation.

which is why they were IDIOTS to go...they were pretty pissed off when they got back...

actually i think the enjoyed it...well, alex did anyway, but he's a little odd. i think he's a little too fond of the adrenaline rush. but that's why we love him, i guess.

Wow, you captured every sentiment I have about rainy days. This is great! It has that droning pattern that I love so much! Great thoughts, great work.
